Dahab Hyperbaric Medical Centre

Opened in 2006, The Hyperbaric Medical Centre and Sea Rescue facility (HMC) is a long awaited treasure for the diving community. Run by Dr Adel Taher, and his assistants, Drs Heikel and Ahmed, it offers full hyperbaric treatment and medical support in the event of diving accidents in the area. Previously, it was necessary to take unfortunate accident victims to Dr Adel's renowned, long-established centre in Sharm El Sheikh, which has been immensely successful in treating many victims of mild and serious pressure related accidents and problems. Its well-deserved reputation bodes well for the future of the new facility in Dahab.

Dr Adel and his associates are also intricately involved in the Sea Rescue services, and, should it prove necessary, are able to activate a fully comprehensive emergency programme in the event of any diving incident, ensuring the highest chance of successful rescue and treatment.

Unlike some other facilities, the HMC recognises diving and medical insurance from any organisation, especially the excellent cover available from the Diver Alert Network (DAN), although, in an emergency, insurance is irrelevant, of course.

The most important aspect of the service offered by Dr Adel and the HMC is an absolute dedication to the wellbeing of all divers, be they in need of treatment or not. Dr Adel uses his international reputation and phenomenal experience, both in the field of diving and of hyperbaric medicine, to further the cause of diving medical science, and to ensure the very best treatment for his patients. As a highly qualified and well-respected diver, with over thirty years' experience, he is more than a little aware of the risks and problems related to diving.

The HMC is a private concern, and is, therefore, a profit-making organisation. However, his dedication and love for his work, coupled with a need to provide the very best service, are what, more than anything else, drive Dr Adel to be the best in Egypt, and among the top in the world. It is refreshing to find a man who is responsible for such a valuable facility, where money takes a very definite second place to principles.

Naturally, no-one wants to be involved in a diving incident, and, thank goodness, they are relatively uncommon, but it is comforting to know that the best treatment is so close at hand.
